Work placements, company projects and volunteering within our extensive UK network of partner organisations provide our students with a range of multimedia skills needed in today’s media industry. Teaching is a collaboration of academics, media professionals, researchers, visiting experts and industry partners - all of whom enrich our curriculum across broadcasting, journalism, media, communications, film and cultural studies. We are ranked in the top 30 for Journalism (Guardian University Guide 2023) and our undergraduate journalism degree was named top performing NCTJ accredited course in the UK for five years running (2013- 2017), with our News Journalism course named Best Performing Postgraduate Degree 2018 by the NCTJ. Our journalism, film and media courses are among the most highly-regarded in the UK, with journalism courses accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ), Broadcast Journalism Training Council (BJCT) and Professional Publishers Association (PPA). Nationally we work with the BBC, Sky, ITN and Channel 5 News, and regionally with Sheffield Documentary Festival, Gem 106, Capital Radio East Midlands, Nottingham Post, Notts TV, Nottingham Media Festival, Broadway Media Centre and Nottingham Contemporary. Our links with local and national television, newspapers, magazines, radio stations, media companies and voluntary organisations open up the classroom for real-world learning.
